Vision without action stays a dream. A practical look at the 7 key areas of life, the small habits that create real change, and how to start designing a life that actually fits you.

Have you ever had one of those moments where life finally slows down for a second… and you realize you haven’t really checked in with yourself in a long time?

You’ve been managing responsibilities. Checking boxes. Taking care of everyone else. Staying productive. Staying busy.

But deep down, something feels slightly off. Not necessarily bad. Just… disconnected.

Like you know you’re grateful for your life… but also know there’s another level of alignment, fulfillment, peace, health, connection, or purpose available to you.

Last week we talked about vision. Because without vision, people drift.

Now let’s talk about how you actually begin designing the life you want.

Because vision is powerful. But without intentional action, it stays a dream.

Over the last decade, I’ve become incredibly intentional about building my life. Has it been perfect? Not even close. There have absolutely been seasons where I’ve felt out of alignment in certain areas. Why?

  • Because life happens.
  • Priorities shift.
  • Pain happens.
  • Growth happens.
  • We evolve.

And that’s actually the point. You are not the same person you were 5 years ago or even yesterday. So your life shouldn’t stay on autopilot either.

Last week, I challenged you to picture your most beautiful life. Now let’s break that vision into something practical.

Inside our team’s intentional life and business planner, we use an exercise called: "My Best Possible Life."

Because the truth is: You don’t build a meaningful life all at once. You build it through small decisions, repeated consistently over time.

The 7 key areas of life

There are 7 key areas of life I intentionally evaluate regularly:

  • Spiritual
  • Health
  • Personal Growth
  • Relationships
  • Job/Business
  • Financial
  • Fun & Adventure

And instead of overwhelming yourself trying to completely overhaul your life overnight… we simplify it.

For each area, ask yourself: "How do I truly want to FEEL in this area of my life?"

Not what looks impressive. Not what society tells you should matter. Not what everyone else is chasing.

What genuinely matters to YOU?

Then ask: "What is ONE small habit I can begin that would move me closer to a 10?"

That’s it. One habit. Because small habits are the ones that actually stick.

Most people try to radically change their life overnight or worse they get so overwhelmed they do nothing. I’ve done it too. I get excited, try to fix everything at once, become overwhelmed, lose momentum… and end up changing nothing.

Real transformation usually happens slower than people want… but faster than they realize when they stay consistent.

For example: If you want more energy in your health… your habit might simply be drinking more water daily. If you want calmer mornings… your habit might be going to bed earlier.

Simple. But powerful.

And to be vulnerable for a moment…

What I’m focusing on right now

One area I’m intentionally focusing on right now is Relationships.

I want to feel more connected. More present. More aligned. Especially in my marriage.

Life gets busy. It’s easy to slowly shift into co-existing instead of truly connecting. To stop dating each other. To assume there will always be more time later. But there won’t always be more time.

So one intentional habit for me right now is simple: More one-on-one time. Because TIME = LOVE.

Another area for me is spirituality. I want to make sure I am making an IMPACT now because I know I am not guaranteed tomorrow. Which is a huge reason this weekly blog exists.

And trust me… I am a work in progress just like everyone else.

  • I fail constantly.
  • I get distracted.
  • I fall out of routines.
  • I have hard seasons. I question everything.

But honestly… that’s part of being human.

Because if life was always perfect… if we were always disciplined… always growing… always motivated… we wouldn’t learn. We wouldn’t evolve. We wouldn’t appreciate the growth.

This process is not about perfection.

It’s about awareness. Alignment. Growth. And intentional living.

Step back and evaluate

Then every quarter, we step back and evaluate:

  • What’s working?
  • What’s not?
  • Where do I feel most aligned?
  • What area needs more attention?
  • What’s my next small habit?

That’s how real change happens. Not through intensity. Through consistency.

Designing your life isn’t about having everything figured out. It’s about paying attention. Checking in. Adjusting when needed. And continuing to move forward intentionally.

Because the goal isn’t perfection. The goal is becoming more YOU.

So here’s what I want you to do: Take 30 quiet minutes this week and write down these 7 areas of your life. Then ask yourself:

  • Where am I currently in each area (1–10)?
  • How do I truly want to feel?
  • What’s ONE small habit I could begin today to move me closer to a 10?

Start there. Because the life you want rarely happens by accident. It’s built by design.

And the goal is to just get 1% everyday — small habits with a compounding effect.

Onward,

Tara Allen
