Most people spend more time planning a vacation than designing their life. Without vision, there is no intention, no progress, and slowly people lose themselves. A reflection on leading your life by design.
If there was one problem I could solve in the world, it would be this: getting people to stop just living their life and settling… and to actually lead their life by design. Which we’ll talk more about next week.
Most people are capable of so much more, but because they never decide what they actually want, they don’t end up living a life that is authentic to them.
Most people spend more time planning their next vacation, lowering their golf handicap, or planning what they are going to wear the next day than they do planning their own life.
And here’s the truth: You will end up somewhere. The question is… will you like where you end up?
The hamster wheel
Wake up. Work. Go through the motions. Repeat.
After all, so much of what we do each day is habitual. Think about it… do you consciously think about brushing your teeth in the morning? Or do you just do it? That’s how most people live their lives, on autopilot.
And if you don’t have a clear direction of where you’re going, you’ll default to what’s easy, what’s familiar, what’s average… or worse, someone else’s life.
Drift doesn’t feel dangerous. It feels comfortable. But over time… it costs you everything. Because without vision, there’s no intention. Without intention, there’s no progress. And without progress, people slowly lose themselves.
Decide what you actually want
So let me ask you something: Have you ever actually stopped and decided what your life is supposed to look like? Not what you think is realistic. Not what other people expect. But what you truly want.
- Where will you live?
- What will your days look like?
- Who will be by your side?
- How will you feel when you wake up?
- What impact will you make?
Pause for a moment and really picture it. Your most beautiful life. Because here’s what’s powerful: once your brain can clearly see something, it starts working to find a way to create it.
Clarity creates direction. Direction creates action. Action creates results.
The clearer you are, the better your chances of actually building the life you want. So here’s the question I want you to sit with: If you and I were sitting here 1, 3, or 5 years from now… what would need to happen for you to say: “Wow… that was an incredible last few years.”
Don’t rush that answer. That answer matters. Because if you don’t define your life, life will define it for you. And most people don’t like where that leads.
By design, not by accident
If there’s one thing I’m most proud of, it’s this: the people on our team take the time, multiple times a year, to step back and evaluate their lives. They intentionally work to move closer to a 10 in all 7 areas of life, create a yearly vision board, and actively build a life they truly desire.
That doesn’t happen by accident. That happens by design.
Choose your direction. Design your life. Make it happen.
- If it’s to be, it’s up to me.
- Anything is possible.
- Everything is figureoutable.
It won’t be easy. It might change as you go. It probably won’t go exactly as planned.
But I guarantee you this: you will be 1% better. 1% more aligned. 1% more in the right direction.
And one day, you’ll wake up and say… “Wow. How did I get here?”
Don’t drift
Don’t drift. You get one life. Make it count.
Lead a life that is authentic to you, a life full of experiences, people who matter, and moments you’re proud of.
Onward,
Tara Allen
