You Don't Rise to Your Goals, You Fall to Your Standards

For three years in a row, our team plateaued, because our standards stayed the same. On discipline over motivation, accountability, and why my new standard is one blog a week.

Well… this sucks. Ha. If only we could dream big, set big goals… and it all just worked out.

But here’s the truth: It doesn’t work like that.

Because goals and vision require something most people don’t want to talk about…

Action.

And if you’re relying on motivation? Good luck.

Most days you won’t feel like it.

Most days you’ll default back to what’s comfortable.

Because motivation is unreliable. Discipline wins every time.

That’s why we talked last week about intentionally designing your habits.

Because your life right now? It reflects you.

The decisions you’ve made.

The actions you’ve taken… or avoided.

What you’ve been willing to tolerate.

Your habits, how you see yourself, how you think about yourself, how you talk to yourself…It all reflects your identityand thestandards you’ve set.

And I’ll be honest with you…For three years in a row, our team plateaued. Why? Because our standards stayed the same, we didn’t grow. Or honestly… I didn’t change anything.

There you go, I slipped into complacency, lack of vision, lack of action, and if I’m being honest a little self doubt. Ha. How could I expect bigger results to be able to add more value for the team & our clients without changing anything? Because I was tired. And if I’m being real…It’s freaking hard. But that’s the point.

Growth requires a shift. Standards require a decision. And sometimes… It requires help.

I finally partnered with someone who can help me raise my standards and grow.

Because you don’t drift into better results. You decide into them.

So let me ask you: What standards are actually required to hit the goals you’ve set?

Who is holding you accountable? And do you even have a strong enough reason why?

For me, I’ve said for years I wanted to write a book. And I’ve done… nothing. Until now.

Because I found meaning behind it. If I found out I was dying, one of my biggest regrets would be not leaving my kids with the lessons I’ve learned through life, my experiences, growth, and MANY failures.

So now? My standard is simple: One blog a week. Something I would want my kids to know.

That’s it. That’s the standard. Does it make sense?

So where are you falling short? Where are your standards not matching your goals?

And what would actually need to change… for you to follow through?

Because the truth is: You don’t rise to your goals. You fall to your standards.

If there is an area in your life you are not happy with, raise your standards..

Find an accountabilibuddy. Change your environment. Put yourself in rooms you don’t feel like you belong in. Do it when you don’t feel like it.

Your future self is counting on it, your family is counting on it. You deserve it.

Onward,

Tara Allen
